Trains to airports in Italy

Getting to the airport by train is often the fastest, cheapest and most sustainable option. Prices and times below come from the operators' official pages, read on 26 October 2026. They change: always check the source before you travel.

Rome Fiumicino (FCO)

Leonardo Express

Route: Roma Termini ↔ Fiumicino Airport, non-stop
Time: 32 minutes
Frequency: one train every 15 minutes, every 30 in some time slots
Price: €14 one way (4 Minigruppi tickets for €40)
Hours: from Termini 4:50 to 23:05, from Fiumicino 5:38 to 23:27

FL1 regional train

Route: Rome stations (for example Trastevere, Ostiense, Tiburtina) ↔ Fiumicino Airport
Price: €8 from a station inside Rome's rail ring (Anello), €11 from other Lazio stations, per the regional fare system
Best for: staying outside the centre

Save with the FL1: if you are not leaving from Termini, the FL1 regional train costs less than the Leonardo Express and stops at more convenient stations.

Milan Malpensa (MXP)

Malpensa Express

Route: Milano (Centrale, Cadorna) ↔ Malpensa Terminal 1 and 2
Frequency: one train every 15 minutes, from 4:00 to 2:00, per Trenord
Time: about 38 minutes from Cadorna to Terminal 1 and about 44 to Terminal 2 (Trenord route pages)
Price: €15 one way (Trenord airport fare). €13 if you buy on the Trenord app or on malpensaexpress.it. Check the price when you buy

Milan Linate (LIN)

M4 metro

Route: Linate Aeroporto ↔ San Cristoforo, 21 stops; central Milan to Linate takes about 12 minutes
Service: every day from early morning until about 00:30. At night NM4 buses replace the trains between Linate and San Cristoforo

Bologna (BLQ)

Marconi Express

Route: Bologna Centrale ↔ G. Marconi Airport
Frequency: up to 8 trips per hour
Hours: 5:40 to 24:00; a bus runs at night
Price: €12.80 one way
Not a train but an automated people mover

Routes: Marco Polo Airport ↔ Venice (line 35a) and Marco Polo Airport ↔ Mestre (line 35b)
Luggage: no limit and no extra cost, according to ATVO
Times and tickets: times are in PDFs on the ATVO site (the 35b timetable is valid from 05/10/2026 to 24/04/2027); tickets are sold online

Turin Caselle (TRN)

Direct rail link: Yes, a Trenitalia train between Torino Porta Susa and Torino Airport
Time: about half an hour, 7 days a week
Price: €3.70 per passenger
Station: in front of the terminal arrivals area

Arriva bus

Route: Porta Nuova and Porta Susa ↔ airport, direct runs with no intermediate stops
Time: 45-50 minutes
Price: €7.50 each way (plus €1 if you pay on board), €11 return

Catania (CTA)

Rail link: Yes, in two steps: train to Catania Aeroporto Fontanarossa station, then a bus to the terminal (Fontanarossa Airlink)
Bus price: €1.40 each way (operator AMTS), added to the train ticket; Trenitalia sells it with the train if you choose "Catania Aeroporto Fontanarossa Bus"

Naples (NAP)

Direct rail link: No. The airport lists the Alibus; the Capodichino station of Metro Line 1 is under construction

Alternative: Alibus (ANM) between the airport, Napoli Centrale (Piazza Garibaldi) and the port (Molo Beverello)
Time: about 15 minutes to Central Station, about 35 to the port
Hours: from the airport 5:30 to 00:00, at most one bus every 15 minutes
Price: €5 each way; ordinary season tickets are not valid on the Alibus

General tips

How early should you arrive?

General guidance only: always follow your airline and airport instructions.

Domestic flights: at least 1.5 hours before
International Schengen flights: at least 2 hours before
Non-Schengen flights: at least 2.5 hours before

Combined train + flight ticket?

Train and flight are bought separately. The exception is Pisa: Trenitalia sells one ticket for the train plus PisaMover (choose "Pisa Aeroporto" as the station).

What's the best airport-train connection in Italy?

The Leonardo Express (Rome Fiumicino) links Termini to the airport in 32 minutes with no stops. The PisaMover is the shortest (under 3 minutes).

Can I bring large luggage on airport trains?

Usually yes, but space depends on the train. On regional trains it may be limited at peak hours.
